BIO
Dr. Monika Herwig ND lives in Canmore with her husband Brent, son Diego, daughter Solana and their golden retriever Meadow. Dr. Monika (as many clients call her) has been practicing Naturopathic medicine in the Bow Valley since January 2000. She is passionate about her work, her family, flamenco dancing, the outdoors and music. Dr. Herwig completed her undergrad schooling at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. where she completed a Bachelor of Science focussing on plant and animal ecology. This undergrad degree took her on some self-directed semester projects on herbal medicine in the Mayan villages and glorious Rainforests of Central and South America. She also spent a summer in Bamfield focussing on Rainforest Ecology and First Nations medicine. This love of nature drew her and her family to create home here in the Bow Valley.
Dr. Herwig has always been drawn to spending time with and for people - upon graduating from highschool she took a year off of academic studies and worked in a soup kitchen and men's and women's overnight shelter run by Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charities in New Mexico as well as an orphanage in Mexico.
Dr. Herwig loves travelling, languages and adventures. She has spent time working in both Germany (at a Spa Hospital specializing in Rheumatism) and in Spain (as a teacher) and has travelled Europe extensively.
Dr. Herwig found naturopathic medicine like some people find their life partner - there was an instant mental and emotional recognition that this was her work - it was more of a calling than anything. She loves the principles of naturopathic medicine and sharing them. She feels that the breadth of naturopathic medicine and it's modalities are so great and individuals are so unique that she will never stop learning and growing with this work. |
