What to Expect

Your first appointment will last up to 2 hours. It will consist of a review of your health history as well as a holistic examination of physical and emotional issues as they relate to your overall wellness. Subsequent appointments vary from 30 to 60 minutes and consist of assessing previous treatments and creating a maintenance plan. Disease prevention and a balanced lifestyle are emphasized.

Naturopathic Medicine is a wonderful adjunct to your conventional medical care. You will be provided with information so that you can choose to safely integrate natural options into your overall healthcare. Whether your concern is acute or chronic, your Naturopath will care for you in a thorough and holistic manner.

I look forward to participating in your health and wellness!

What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

Naturopathic Doctors are the general practitioners of natural medicine. We are trained in conventional pathology and diagnosis, as well as a number of therapies that support the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Clinical tools include nutrition, homeopathy, herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture, diet and herbs), lifestyle counseling, and Mind-Body Medicine.

A licensed Naturopathic Doctor has completed four years of graduate school at a Naturopathic medical college and has successfully passed North American wide licensing exams (NPLEX).

Are you covered by insurance?
Unfortunately insurance companies in Michigan do not currently cover Naturopathic Doctors. While we are working towards licensure in this state, it will still be up to the insurance companies themselves whether or not they will ever cover Naturopathic medical care.

What's the difference between a homeopath and a naturopath?

There are three main differences. A homeopath is trained exclusively in the art and science of homeopathy. A naturopathic doctor is trained in homeopathy in addition to nutrition, herbal medicine and lifestyle counseling. A homeopath usually does not have training in Western medical diagnosis or pathology. A Naturopathic Doctor is trained and must pass standardized tests on Western medical diagnosis and pathology. Lastly, a homeopath can have various levels of training, from informal apprenticeship to extensive studies. A naturopathic doctor is someone who has completed four years of full time graduate school at one of four accredited schools in North America and has passed NPLEX licensing exams.

Note: In Michigan, naturopathic doctor is not a protected title so anyone can claim to be a “naturopath” or “naturopathic doctor”. It is worth asking if the health provider is a member of the Michigan Association of Naturopathic Physicians, which requires NPLEX completion for its members.
