Winston   Cardwell ND , LAc

Winston Cardwell is a board certified and licensed (Oregon) Naturopathic Physician and acupuncturist (Georgia) on the leading edge of a medical revolution in the south. For his patients, the results are profound.

Dr. Cardwell is trained as a general practitioner/primary care physician and is licensed as such in the state of Oregon. He holds dual degrees as a Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.) and a Masters of Science of Oriental Medicine (M.S.O.M). He has extensive training and experience in providing complementary treatments for chronic illnesses, pain management, rheumatoid disorders, women’s health, pediatrics, gastroenterology, oncology, cardiology, and advanced intravenous therapies.

Dr. Cardwell received his training from the oldest naturopathic institution in the country, the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM; formerly the National College of Naturopathic Medicine), a federally accredited and licensed, four year medical school. He has additional training in environmental medicine, integrative oncology, integrative cardiology and integrative pediatrics.

During his training with NCNM, Dr. Cardwell pursued an additional three year degree in Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM). CCM is a methodical, systematic approach to diagnosis and treatment originating more than 5,000 years ago -an ancient healing art which includes the use of acupuncture, moxabustion, herbal medicine, Qi Gong, and various forms of Asian body work (Tui Na, Shiatsu, cupping, etc.) to achieve whole body health. He is proud to have studied under accomplished physicians, each of whom is well-known and respected physician in their homeland of China, the United States, and Germany.

The comprehensive approach to wellness he uses includes an extensive historical intake, physical examination, tongue and pulse analysis, herbal medicine, nutritional supplementation and dietary recommendations as well as functional laboratory testing when indicated. This is performed while adhering to the tenets of Naturopathic Medicine: Primum no nocere, first do no harm; Tolle Causum, identify and treat the cause as well as the whole person; Vis Medicatrix Naturae, honor and utilize the healing power of nature, Docere, doctor as teacher, and Principiis obsta: sero medicina curatui, Prevention is the best medicine.

Dr. Cardwell is originally from Atlanta and has a number of well-known physicians in his extended family, most notably Dr. Phinizy Calhoun, MD, Chariman of Emory University's Department of Ophthalmology and founder of Emory's Orthoptic Services. He received his B.S. in Biology from the College of Charleston and is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (www.naturopathy.org), the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (www.oncanp.org), the Society for Integrative Oncology (www.sio.org), the Weston A. Price Foundation (www.wapf.org), and the American Herbalist’s Guild (www.ahg.org). He is currently in practice at Crabapple Integrative and Internal Medicine with Dr. Forrest Smith, MD.
